Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most anticipated film is nearing the end of its production run. After months of scheduling updates and release date changes, the team behind ‘Love & War’ is now preparing for one of the biggest song sequences the director has mounted in his career.

Shooting resumes on June 18

‘Love & War’ is set to resume filming on June 18 after a brief production break. The upcoming schedule will bring lead actors Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal back together for one of the film’s biggest sequences to date.

According to a report by Mid-Day, the next phase of filming will focus on an elaborate song sequence mounted on a massive scale. The sequence is expected to feature nearly 200 dancers along with the lead cast. A production insider told the publication that the shoot was originally to kick off on June 8 but has now been pushed to the 18th, with the venue confirmed as Royal Palms.

Scale and preparation

The elaborate shoot is likely to take place on a specially constructed set at Mumbai’s Royal Palms and will span several days. Extensive rehearsals are already underway.

The source further revealed that the choreography, costumes, production design have been in preparation for weeks. The scale is enormous, even by Bhansali’s standards. Every frame has been meticulously storyboarded, which is why the shoot was pushed by two weeks.

Where the film currently stands

Bhansali confirmed in March 2026 that ‘Love & War’ is 90 percent complete. A source close to the production stated that the actors worked only for the number of shooting days they were originally signed for, pushing back against reports of an endlessly stretching schedule.

Alia Bhatt echoed the same sentiment while speaking to Vogue Italia. She described the experience as magical, called working with Bhansali a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and confirmed that filming was nearing its end.

Despite earlier delays, Bhansali is determined to meet the January 2027 release deadline. An insider noted that the director has been working non-stop for the last two years and that the team is actively reworking timelines to stay on course.

Why shooting was paused

The upcoming schedule follows a temporary pause due to the lead actors’ commitments to other projects. Ranbir Kapoor recently shifted his attention to Ramayana: Part Two, as director Nitesh Tiwari moves ahead with the next phase of the mythological franchise. Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal has been preparing for and filming Mahavatar, in which he will portray Lord Parashuram.

Reports indicated that the delays were tied to scheduling conflicts with Kapoor’s Ramayana: Part Two and Kaushal’s Mahavatar. A source told Mid-Day that ‘Love & War’ would resume shooting in the second half of 2026. And the June 18 date now confirms that timeline is holding.

A shifting release date

The makers have moved away from several earlier release targets, including Christmas 2025, Eid 2026 and August 2026. The decision was taken to allow sufficient time for visual effects and post-production work.

The film was originally set for Summer 2026 before production delays pushed the timeline. Ranbir Kapoor had earlier confirmed that ‘Love & War’ would release after Ramayana: Part One, scheduled for October 2026.

Bhansali Productions later announced January 21, 2027, as the official theatrical release date. That date falls on the Republic Day weekend. The film will release in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, to reach a wider pan-India audience.
